Google is finally making progress on its long-awaited double-tap-to-lock feature for Pixel phones. The feature, which allows users to turn off their phone's screen without reaching for the power button, was first spotted in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 back in June 2022.

After months of silence, the company has updated some previously dormant strings related to the double-tap-to-sleep feature. The changes suggest that Google is making the feature even more useful, with the ability to turn off the screen by double-tapping an empty area on either the home or lock screen.

The update also includes new strings pointing to a dedicated settings page for the feature. This implies that when enabled, users will be able to locate and manage the double-tap-to-sleep gesture from within their device's settings.
