Google Revives Now Playing Notifications, Multi-User Support Coming Soon
Google has announced that it is working to restore a previously removed feature on Pixel devices: notifications for the Now Playing app.
The Now Playing app, which identifies songs playing in the background, lost its notification feature when Google launched the app as a dedicated app back in March. This change made it more difficult for users to quickly identify songs without unlocking their device.
However, according to recent findings by Android Authority, Google is working on restoring this feature. Strings of code within the Now Playing app reference notifications, and while attempts to activate the feature were unsuccessful, it suggests that the feature is being worked on.
In addition to restoring notifications, Google is also reportedly working on a new feature for multiple users to track their own song history on a single Pixel device. This feature will allow each user profile to have its own song tracking history, rather than just the main profile.
