Google is rolling out Motion Assist to Android devices in an effort to reduce motion sickness when users are on their phone while in a moving vehicle. The feature was first noticed in a beta release back in December 2024 and is now available for Pixel phones running Android 17, with other devices set to follow.

Motion Assist works by displaying animated dots or shapes along the edges of the screen that move in response to the motion of the vehicle. Users can customize the color, shape, and opacity of these indicators, as well as set the feature to turn on automatically when it detects they are traveling in a car, bus, train, or other moving vehicle.

The feature is similar to Apple's Vehicle Motion Cues released for the iPhone in 2024. Google sends a notification when Motion Assist is activated, allowing users to easily toggle it off if needed.
