Google Saves Android Users from Data Loss with New Unlock Feature

Android users may soon gain an extra layer of protection against data loss due to incorrect PIN attempts. According to recent findings, Google is working on a new feature that would allow devices to be unlocked using the associated Google account if all PIN attempts have been exhausted or forgotten.

This change comes as Android 17 has reduced the number of allowed PIN attempts from 20 to just five, making it more likely for users to lock themselves out. Normally, once this limit is reached, devices must be reset to their factory settings, resulting in data loss.

The proposed feature would require users to protect their Google account with a secure password and ideally multi-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized access.
