The Google search ranking system experienced a significant spike in volatility on August 12-13. This period of high ranking movement was observed by various third-party tools, including AWR, AccuRanker Grump, and CognitiveSEO.

The ranking volatility started on August 12 and continued into the next day, with some sites experiencing drops exceeding 70%. The affected areas included Discover in Brazil, where niche-free AI-generated content was seen to be performing well.

Publishers have raised concerns about the impact of these changes on their traffic and conversion rates. Some reported a significant increase in finance spam, while others saw a drop in traffic compared to January. Amazon sales, however, did see an increase of 244% during this time.
