Google Secures Spirit Airlines' Digital Assets for $10 Million
Google has emerged as the winning bidder for Spirit Airlines' digital repositories in a bankruptcy court auction, securing the assets for $10 million. The airline declared bankruptcy on May 2 and was forced to sell off its remaining corporate assets to pay down approximately $8.1 billion in debt.
The tech giant beat out AI recruitment firm Mercor, which submitted a bid of $7.5 million. In case Google's deal falls through, the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York has designated Mercor as the backup buyer.
Google plans to use the acquired files to train its AI Large Language Models (LLMs), granting access to an exceptionally vast and specialized operational dataset.
