Europe's Favorite ETF Holds Surprising Amounts in Top Ten Names
The Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF has become a default choice for European investors seeking broad equity exposure. However, a closer look at its latest portfolio snapshot reveals a tension in its design: over 3,800 stocks are represented, yet more than one-fifth of its assets ride on just ten names.
At the end of July, the fund held 3,782 equities, fewer than the 4,264 constituents of the underlying FTSE All-World Index. The top ten positions accounted for 24.6 percent of net assets, a decline from 25.6 percent at the end of May.
The composition of the top tier shows subtle but meaningful rotation. Nvidia still leads the pack, but its weighting has slipped from 4.7 percent to 4.5 percent. Alphabet also gave ground, easing from 3.8 percent to 3.6 percent. Microsoft nudged higher from 3.2 percent to 3.3 percent, while Broadcom retreated from 2.0 percent to 1.7 percent.
JPMorgan Chase enters the top ten with a 0.9 percent weighting, while Samsung slipped from 1.0 percent to 0.9 percent. The remaining slots are filled by TSMC, Meta, and Broadcom, all occupying low single-digit weightings.
