Google Secures US$10 Million Deal for Spirit Airlines' Business Data
Google has emerged as the winner of a US$10 million bid for a vast collection of deidentified Spirit Airlines business data and software, after an auction process that concluded on August 14. The dataset spans from internal communications to flight operations, pricing, maintenance, and revenue systems.
The package includes approximately 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams records, and roughly 17.1 million OneDrive items, as well as around 516 repositories containing about 30 million lines of Spirit-developed source code.
Spirit's bankruptcy estate will transfer the dataset to Google once court approval is secured, which is expected on August 19. The company has not disclosed plans for using the records in an airline-specific product or AI model.
