Google Seeks Approval for Hundreds More Generators at Fort Wayne Data Center

Google's Fort Wayne data center is seeking permission to add hundreds of backup generators. The tech giant has filed an application with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for 228 additional generators, which will bring the total number to 407.

The original request from Hatchworks, LLC, the builder of the data center, was approved in April when IDEM allowed the number of backup generators to increase from 34 to 179. Google plans to use ultra-low sulfur diesel or a renewable alternative for the new generators.

However, not everyone is pleased with the expansion. The Citizens Action Coalition has expressed concern about the increased number of generators, calling it a 'massive expansion' and stating that they are 'alarmed' by it.
