Google Seeks Approval for Over 200 Emergency Generators at Fort Wayne Data Center

Google has submitted a request to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to add over 200 emergency generators to its Fort Wayne data center.

The tech giant's latest application seeks approval for 228 additional backup generators, which will be used as a safety net in case of power grid outages or during legally required maintenance checks.

According to Google, the new generators will run on ultra-low sulfur diesel or renewable diesel alternatives like Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and will meet or exceed EPA Tier 4 emission standards.

The company claims that even with the added capacity, its Fort Wayne data center will remain below its state-mandated emissions cap.
