Google September Spam Update Released: Changes to Search Console, Page Experience Docs & More
Google has released its fourth spam update of the year, the September 2026 Google spam update. This latest update follows previous reports of increased search ranking volatility on September 23rd and 24th.
The company has also made several other changes to its services. In Google Search Console, multimodal search filters have been added to performance reports. Additionally, the page experience document now includes CrUX ad metrics, although this is not a ranking factor.
Another development is that Google will be forced by the UK's CMA to make it easier for users to switch default search providers on Android and Chrome. This change may impact how users interact with search engines in the future.
In other news, Google Discover is testing a new feature called 'Dive deeper' which takes traffic away from publishers. This has raised concerns about the potential impact on content creators.
