Google Sets Up Shop at Ohio State University for AI Research
Ohio State University has partnered with Google to establish a satellite office on campus, focusing on artificial intelligence research. The partnership is a first-of-its-kind between Google Public Sector and a university, and it will bring together top talent from both sides. The new office will be located in the west campus Innovation District, where Google engineers will work alongside Ohio State students, staff, and faculty.
The collaboration aims to expand campuswide technology access and support the university's AI Fluency initiative. As part of the agreement, Ohio State researchers will gain access to Google's DeepMind artificial intelligence research and development laboratory. Additionally, a graduate research ambassador program with Google Public Sector will be established, providing students with hands-on industry experience.
Google officials emphasized the importance of this partnership, citing Ohio State's ambition to solve global problems as matching their own goals. Matt Schneider, Google U.S. market leader for state local and education, stated that 'our teams have been profoundly impressed' by the university's people and leaders. The financial terms of the three- to four-year partnership remain undisclosed.
