Google Settles $68M Lawsuit Over Alleged Misuse of Private Conversations
Eligible U.S. residents have until Thursday to file claims in a $68 million settlement involving Google Assistant, which allegedly recorded private conversations without users' knowledge.
The lawsuit accused Google of allowing its voice-activated assistant to record conversations without users intentionally triggering it, with plaintiffs alleging the information could be used for targeted advertising.
Google did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement, but agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty, expense, risk and distraction associated with continuing the litigation.
