Google Shuts Off Access to Premium Gemini Models for Free and Plus Tier Subscribers
Google is making changes to its Gemini AI model access for individual users based on their monthly subscription plans. The updates will be applied from October 9, affecting those on the free and Plus tiers.
The Flash-Lite (3.5) 'fastest answers' model will be available to all users without an AI subscription, while those on the $4.99 / £4.49 / AU$7.99 AI Plus plan will lose access to the Pro (3.1) 'advanced reasoning' model but still be able to use the Flash (3.6) 'all around help' model.
The restrictions are part of a new tiered system that limits model access based on usage, with paid users having higher limits than those without a Google AI subscription. The exact usage limits depend on factors such as prompt complexity and chat length.
