Google Simplifies Password Manager Switching on Android
Google has made it easier for Android users to switch between password managers without downloading files. The company announced a new feature that allows users to transfer passwords and passkeys between providers, including Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane.
The transfer process works by detecting existing password managers on the device and displaying available import options. Users can then review and authorize the transfer through their existing password manager, after which the data moves between apps in seconds.
This new feature eliminates the need to download passwords into unencrypted text files, which left credentials unprotected on devices. Passkeys can now be transferred directly between services, whereas previously users had to recreate them across multiple sites and apps.
Google said that additional password manager providers will add support for this feature in the future.
