Google Simplifies Password Transfers Between Managers
Google has rolled out an update to its password management system on Android devices. The new feature allows users to easily transfer their saved passwords and passkeys between different password managers for the first time.
The process is streamlined by using the Credential Exchange Format (CXF), a standardized data structure designed to facilitate transfers between multiple providers.
Users can now import or copy their passwords and passkeys from another provider within their chosen password manager app. Android will then take over, detecting existing managers on the device and offering options for transfer.
The feature is currently available on Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane, with more integrations planned in the future.
