Google Slapped with €403 Million Fine for Covert Location Tracking

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has fined Google €403 million for collecting and retaining users' location data without their consent.

The fine was issued after an investigation into Google's policies found that it had been covertly tracking users' geolocation, using this information to show targeted advertisements and determine their interests.

The DPC noted that retaining users' location data for longer than necessary exacerbated the loss of control over personal data.
