Google Slapped with €403 Million Fine for EU Location Data Breach

Google has been fined €403 million ($463 million) by the European Union's data privacy watchdog for breaching EU location data rules. The fine is the fourth biggest issued by Ireland's Data Protection Commission, which said Google mishandled users' location data through its Web & App Activity and Location History settings.

The investigation found that Google did not lawfully or fairly process location data in these settings, and also failed to be transparent when processing personal data in its Location Accuracy feature on Android mobile operating systems.

Google said the fine relates to historical policies that have since been updated, and the company has made changes to how it handles location data. The regulator has three ongoing investigations involving Google.
