Google Slapped with $463 Million Fine for EU Location Data Misuse

Google has been fined $463 million for breaching EU rules on location data. The fine was issued by Ireland's Data Protection Commission, which found that Google did not lawfully or fairly process location data in users' Web & App Activity and Location History settings.

The commission investigated Google's handling of location data from its Web & App Activity and Location History services. These services track browsing and search history, as well as mapping places visited with mobile phones.

The $463 million fine is equivalent to 403 million euros. The EU has strict privacy rules that require companies to obtain explicit consent before collecting and processing personal data.
