Google Slapped with $463M Fine for Location Data Breach
Google has been hit with a massive fine of $463 million for breaching the European Union's strict privacy rules. The bloc's data privacy watchdog, Ireland's Data Protection Commission, found that Google mishandled users' location data in its Web & App Activity and Location History settings.
The investigation discovered that Google did not lawfully or fairly process location data, and failed to be transparent when processing personal data in its Location Accuracy feature. This is a serious breach of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The fine is one of the largest imposed on a tech giant for violating GDPR rules. The commission stated that Google must take immediate action to rectify the issue and ensure compliance with the regulation.
