Google Slashes RAM Appetite for Android Apps
Google is taking steps to optimize smartphone performance by introducing new memory standards for Android apps and games. As of February 2027, applications on Google Play will be subject to strict performance thresholds that curb excessive RAM consumption.
The tech giant aims to eliminate system slowdowns and forced app closures caused by insufficient memory. To achieve this, Google has released tools within the Play Console to help developers monitor and rectify memory issues. These tools provide detailed memory usage analytics via Android Vitals, enabling developers to identify specific areas exceeding memory limits.
In addition to RAM usage standards, Google will require all applications with login systems to support the zero-tap sign-in standard. This feature automatically restores login states when users transfer data from an old smartphone to a new device.
