Google Spared Breakup in Digital Ads Antitrust Ruling
A federal judge has ordered Google to retool its system for digital advertising but spared it from being broken up. The decision by U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Virginia comes after a long-running antitrust lawsuit against the tech giant. The initial two-page ruling marks the second time this year that Google has received a reprieve from a Justice Department proposal to dismantle its internet empire.
The court described Google's anti-competitive practices as enriching its corporate parent, Alphabet Inc., which has a market value of $4.11 trillion. This decision follows a similar one in June where the judge ordered changes to Google's ad business but did not break it up. The tech giant's digital advertising system is a significant source of revenue for Alphabet.
