Google Stock Falls Amid Search Slump and Key Employee Exits
Google's stock price has fallen by 6% over the past month, while the S&P 500 has gained about 3%. According to Goldman Sachs analyst Eric Sheridan, this decline is due to two main concerns. Firstly, Google Search slowed down more than expected in Q2, which may impact its competitiveness in the market.
The second concern is related to employee departures at Google and its subsidiary DeepMind. Demis Hassabis stepped down as CEO of Google DeepMind and took on a chairman and chief scientist role, while longtime executive Jeff Dean left the company after 27 years to start a new business with senior fellow Sanjay Ghemawat.
These employee changes are significant because Google is heavily competing for top AI talent. Additionally, reported delays in Gemini 3.5 Pro have added another concern, as investors question whether Google can keep up with other leading AI companies.
