Google Stock Growth Hinges on AI Spending and Cloud Backlog
Alphabet's AI spending has become the focal point for Google stock growth, with the company planning to spend $200 billion on infrastructure this year. This figure is a major driver behind forecasts and predictions for GOOGL stock in the coming months.
The company's recent capex of $44.9 billion in the June quarter pushed its spending to 29.7% of revenue, significantly higher than its historical average of 12.2%. Google Services brought in $94.5 billion for the quarter, while Google Cloud added another $24.8 billion.
CEO Sundar Pichai emphasizes that AI investments are redefining what's possible across every part of their business. However, net income climbed mainly due to unrealized gains on an equity portfolio, and operating cash flow ran 13.1% below net income.
The company has updated its full-year capex guidance range to $195 billion-$205 billion, which is a significant jump from the previous estimate. The large cloud backlog of $514 billion, with more than half expected to turn into revenue within two years, provides a rough timetable for when this spending converts back into cash.
