Google streamlines password transfers on Android

Google has introduced a new feature on Android that allows users to transfer passwords and passkeys between password managers without downloading files. The company announced this update on Thursday, stating it eliminates the previous requirement for users to download passwords into unencrypted text files.

The process of transferring data is straightforward: users open a new password manager app, select the option to import credentials from another provider, and Android detects existing password managers on the device. The available import options are then displayed, allowing users to review and authorize the transfer through their existing password manager.

This transfer process takes mere seconds and works in reverse as well, enabling users to export data from their current password manager. Currently, Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden Password Manager, and Dashlane support this feature. However, Google stated that additional password manager providers will add support for the transfer experience.
