Google Takes Down 449 Korean YouTube Channels for Politically Charged Content
Google has taken down 449 Korean YouTube channels in Q2 for their politically charged content, according to a report by Google's Threat Analysis Group. The channels were terminated for sharing content that was either critical or supportive of the Korean government and for expressing support for or disapproval of particular Korean political parties or political figures.
The largest share of terminated channels came in May, just before the June 3 local elections, with 367 channels shut down. This is a significant number compared to other countries - Google terminated 9,173 Chinese channels and 2,083 Russian channels between Q2 2025 and Q1 2026.
The report highlights the growing concern of politically charged content on social media platforms. While Google did not provide further details on the specific content that was deemed unacceptable, it is clear that the company is taking a stricter stance on political content in Korea.
