Google Tests AI Shopping on Flipkart Through Gemini in India

Google is testing a new AI-powered shopping experience in India through Walmart-owned e-commerce platform Flipkart. The pilot, which began on Flipkart listings appearing in Google Gemini and AI Mode, allows select users to buy products directly without leaving the Google interface.

The test currently covers products including smartphones, electronics, and mobile accessories, with a 'Buy' button visible on select product listings. Tapping this button takes shoppers directly to a Flipkart-branded checkout flow, allowing them to complete the purchase without opening Flipkart separately.

This experiment differs from Google's earlier work on its Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard designed to allow AI agents to interact with retailers across the shopping journey. In this case, users are taken to a Flipkart-branded checkout instead of a Google-hosted checkout experience.
