Google Tests Direct Flipkart Purchases Through Gemini in India
Google has begun testing a new feature in India that allows users to buy products directly from Walmart-owned Flipkart through Gemini and AI Mode. This move is part of the search giant's efforts to expand its AI services beyond product discovery into transactions.
The test, which is currently limited to select users and a small selection of products including smartphones, electronics, and mobile accessories, allows users to tap on a 'Buy' button on Flipkart product listings in Gemini and AI Mode. This takes them directly to a Flipkart checkout flow without leaving the AI interface.
The test comes as Google and other tech giants are adding commerce capabilities to their AI offerings, aiming to play a more direct role in online purchases. The feature is set to be rolled out more broadly later this month, ahead of India's festive shopping season.
