Google Tests Gemini's Ability to Handle Routine Phone Calls on Pixel 11

Google has launched an experiment called 'Call for Me' on the Pixel 11 series phones, allowing Gemini to handle routine phone calls. This feature is available to a limited number of users in the US who are enrolled in the Phone by Google beta and have a paid Gemini subscription.

The Call for Me workflow begins when a user opens the Gemini app and asks it to call a business. Gemini then introduces itself and handles the conversation with the person on the other end, while providing a live transcript of the call that the user can follow in real time.

Users remain in control at all times, able to take over the conversation at any point. Call for Me can handle tasks such as booking appointments, rescheduling reservations, and placing items on hold.

The feature is initially rolling out to a small number of users, with access tied to a paid Gemini subscription and the Phone by Google public beta in the US.
