Google Tests New Layout for AI Overview Citation Cards

Google is testing a new layout for its AI Overview responses on desktop. This time, citation cards are appearing at the bottom of the page instead of on the right side. The test was spotted by digital marketing expert Glenn Gabe, who posted screenshots on X.

The new layout shows inline links that can be hovered over, along with a larger citation area at the bottom of the page. This is a change from previous tests in March 2026 and September 2025, where citation cards were shown on both the right side and at the bottom.

Gabe noted that he 'sort of like[s] it' and that the links look 'more enticing down there.' However, it's worth noting that without clicking the 'Show more' button, only link icons are displayed in the AI response.
