Google Tests Paying Websites for AI-Generated Content
Google is testing a new pilot program to pay websites and publishers when their content is used in AI Overviews and other AI results.
The 'AI contribution pilot' is currently being tested with at least dozens of small and mid-sized publishers, covering a scope far beyond news publishers.
Publishers involved in the pilot say that the information provided by Google is basic, but they are hopeful about the precedent set by the company's efforts to pay publishers directly for content used in AI results.
This effort comes after repeated reports showed that AI has significantly impacted web traffic distribution, with many websites suffering as a result.
