Google Translate Revamps App with Background Translation and Earpiece Audio

Google Translate has rolled out two major updates to alleviate real-time translation pains. The first feature allows live translation to run in the background, enabling users to multitask freely without interrupting the session. This means that users can lock their device or switch apps while listening to live announcements on a train, keeping hands free and battery drain down.

The second update introduces direct earpiece audio playback for iOS devices, allowing users to hold their phone up to their ear like a standard phone call and hear live translations clearly and privately. This feature solves the problem of broadcasting translated text over a phone's loud main speaker in crowded environments.

Google Translate has also revamped its interface to organize translation methods into clear operational modes depending on the user's environment: Listening, Conversation, Text Only, and Custom Settings. These updates are rolling out globally across the latest versions of the Google Translate app on Google Play and the Apple App Store.
