Google TV Streamer Lag Fix: Enabling Apps Only Mode

A Google TV Streamer user experienced lag on their device and set out to fix it. Craig, a reporter for Pocket-lint, had been using his Google TV Streamer since Prime Day in June when he snagged it for $75. He enjoyed the clean interface and Android freedoms, but started experiencing lag over the summer.

After ruling out Wi-Fi as the culprit, Craig dove into the settings menu to find a solution. There, he discovered Apps only mode, which transforms the home screen by removing tabs like Gemini, Movies, and Shows, leaving only the Home tab with a single row of recommendations and apps in a grid view.

By enabling Apps only mode, Craig freed up system resources and eliminated lag on his device. He could now launch apps instantly without wading through cluttered home screens. However, there are caveats: users cannot install new apps while it's enabled and voice search is unavailable.
