Google Unifies Digital Payment Services Under Google Wallet
The Google Wallet and Google Pay saga has been one of confusion for many users. Initially released as a peer-to-peer payment system in 2011, Google Wallet has undergone several metamorphoses over the years, from Android Pay in 2015 to Google Pay in 2018 and back to Google Wallet in 2022.
The main issue lies in the fact that Google Pay used to be a standalone app. However, with the release of the new Google Wallet app, the original Google Pay app has been replaced, and now Google Pay is an option that appears during online transactions, making it more of a feature within Google Wallet rather than a distinct entity.
Both Google Wallet and Google Pay are now integrated into Android phones, allowing for both online and NFC-based contactless payments. The integration also enables users to access their cards digitally, including vouchers, boarding passes, gym, and library cards, among others.
