Google Unveils $15B Finland Digital Infrastructure Boom
Google has announced a massive investment plan to bolster its digital infrastructure in Finland. The company plans to invest at least $15.1 billion over two years to support data centers and related infrastructure in several Finnish cities. This move marks the largest single investment by Google in Europe to date.
The project will span across four locations: Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala. In addition to digital infrastructure, the initiative includes clean energy projects and community funds aimed at supporting local biodiversity, education, research, and workforce development.
According to estimates, the construction phase between 2027 and 2028 is expected to contribute an annual average of €3.6 billion to the Finnish economy. The project will also create more than 37,000 jobs nationwide, with approximately 16,000 roles in the construction sector during this period.
Once operational, the facilities are expected to support 7,000 jobs annually and generate labor income with average wages 24% above the national median wage. Google has also signed a 22-year power purchase agreement with Fortum to support the life extension program for the Loviisa nuclear power plant.
