Google Unveils Advanced Protection Suite to Safeguard Android Users
Google has introduced Advanced Protection on Android to safeguard users from sophisticated threats. This suite of protections elevates standard device-level security settings and is available on devices running Android 17, except for USB Protection and Failed Authentication Lock which are available on select devices.
The new features include Intrusion Logging, which logs security and network events in the cloud, end-to-end encrypted and securely stored. This capability is optional and requires a manual opt-in from the Advanced Protection settings page.
USB Protection prevents unauthorized physical access via hardware accessories or malicious charging stations by defaulting to charging only when the device is locked. Existing connections will persist even when the screen locks.
Accessibility Protection restricts AccessibilityService access exclusively to verified applications categorized as Accessibility Tools, closing off a major avenue of attack while preserving vital assistive technology.
