Google Unveils AI-Detecting Tools for Chrome

Google's annual I/O developers conference brought several new features to Chrome, including tools for detecting AI-generated content and deepfakes. Google's SynthID verification will be added to Chrome 'over the coming weeks.' This technology, developed by Google DeepMind three years ago, works on images, videos, and audio files and is also being implemented by OpenAI, Kakao, and ElevenLabs in their content.

Another feature coming to Chrome is content credential verification from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) 'in the coming months.' Users will be able to screen content for C2PA metadata, which denotes AI modification.

Later this summer, Google's Gemini Spark personal AI agent will work within Chrome. Powered by Gemini 3.5 Flash, Spark runs 24/7 in the cloud and doesn't require a local device to keep working.
