Google has launched a new premium fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge, as part of its ongoing focus on health technologies. The device, priced at $180, blends features of smartwatches and traditional fitness gadgets. It sports an oval, 1.34-inch display, giving it a smartwatch-like appearance while maintaining its fitness-centric purpose. A notable first for Fitbit, the Edge includes a replaceable battery that lasts up to a week and can be charged to a day's power in just five minutes.
The Fitbit Edge also introduces several advanced health and fitness features. These include automatic workout detection, an altimeter, and wellness tools like proactive health monitoring and insulin resistance tracking. The device is available in four colors, obsidian, canyon, fog, and olive green, and can be preordered now, with shipments beginning October 27. Additionally, a special-edition version named after basketball player Stephen Curry is offered in select countries for $220.
