Google has released Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar, an AI chatbot feature that brings real-time visual faces to its virtual assistant. This new development allows for more interactive and human-like conversations between users and the AI system.

The Live Avatar feature includes photo-realistic, animated, and animal faces, providing a near real-time visual presence. The AI agent uses verbal and non-verbal backchannel reactions to show understanding and attention without interrupting the active speaker.

In addition to its visual capabilities, Gemini 3.8 Live with Live Avatar also features advanced background reasoning through asynchronous tool calling. This allows the AI to fetch data and handle complex tasks in the background while maintaining an uninterrupted dialogue.
