Google Unveils Googlebook Laptops Starting at $899

Google has introduced its new laptop line, Googlebook, which is built around its Gemini AI technology. The devices will be available for pre-order starting at $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14 and reaching up to $1,299 for models from Asus, HP, and Lenovo.

The laptops combine ChromeOS with Android technology and include native Android app support, cross-device links with Android phones, and on-device AI features powered by a neural processing unit with up to 45 TOPS of performance.

Dell's XPS Googlebook and HP's Googlebook 14 will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chip, which has a 12-core Oryon CPU clocked up to 4GHz. Acer and Asus models will use Intel Core Ultra Series 3, while the Lenovo Googlebook 15 will also run on Intel.

The devices feature OLED touchscreens, Dolby Atmos audio, fingerprint sensors, and an LED light strip called the Glowbar that responds to power-on, battery status, and Gemini interactions. Software features include Cast my Apps, which mirrors Android phone apps to the laptop, and Magic Pointer, which activates Gemini by wiggling the cursor.

MediaTek has announced a 3-nanometer chip designed for Googlebooks with 55 TOPS of AI performance. This chip is paired with an Immortalis G925 GPU and claims about 15% better multi-core performance than Snapdragon X Elite in Geekbench 6. MediaTek is working with Lenovo on a future Googlebook.
