Google Unveils Googlebooks: AI-Powered Laptops Debut October 5
Google's much-anticipated lineup of AI-centric laptops, known as Googlebooks, is set to make its official debut on October 5. The company has scheduled a 'Celebration' event in New York City, where it will showcase the devices and their features. According to an invite sent out by Google, attendees can expect interactive showcases and the unveiling of the first laptop designed for Gemini Intelligence.
The laptops are based on ChromeOS, which is built on top of Android, allowing for seamless integration with Android phones. Google's partners, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, will be manufacturing the devices. One notable feature of the Googlebooks is the 'glowbar' on the lid, as well as a functionality called Magic Pointer.
Magic Pointer suggests contextual actions based on what you hover over on your screen, but it's not enabled by default - users need to wiggle the cursor first. Another feature borrowed from Android 17 is the ability to generate custom widgets. It appears that Google will start taking pre-orders for the devices as early as September 21, with shipping expected around the same time.
The exact date of when shipments will begin is uncertain, but it's clear that Google wants to get its products out before the holiday shopping season starts in earnest. With the Celebration event set to take place just a few weeks after pre-orders open up, we may finally get some clarity on the capabilities and pricing of these AI-centric laptops.
