Google Unveils Plans for Wyoming Data Center, Promises Water Stewardship

Google's Project Tembo data center has taken a major step forward in Wyoming. The tech giant recently held a public informational presentation about their plans to build an 8-mile south of Cheyenne in the Switchgrass Industrial Park.

The site, surrounded by rural and agricultural land, will use minimal water through a closed loop system that is air cooled. To avoid interfering with community resources, Google plans to pull water from deep wells beneath the local watershed.

According to Joey Terrano, Water Supply and Infrastructure expert at Google, they are committed to water stewardship. 'From a stewardship perspective, it's not just about conservation of water on-site. It's about leaving the local ecosystem stronger than we found them,' he said.

The company claims to have 165 active watershed projects in 97 watersheds replenishing billions of gallons of water each year. They also plan to treat their wastewater so that all discharge will be clean water going into onsite lined evaporative ponds.
