Google Unveils Powerful New AI Model, but Limits Access Due to Security Concerns
Google has finally updated its Gemini AI model, but it will only be available to select users. The new model, called Argon, is larger and more powerful than Google's previous 'Pro' models.
The company claims that Argon is comparable to frontier models like OpenAI's Astra and Anthropic's Opus on key coding and cybersecurity benchmarks.
However, the update comes at a time when Google has fallen behind its competitors in the AI race. The months of delays have caused the company to lose ground to Anthropic and OpenAI, which continued to push the research frontier with new releases to their top models.
The company's chief executive, Sundar Pichai, had originally planned to release Gemini 3.5 Pro in June, but it has been delayed indefinitely.
