Google Unveils Premium Laptops with Deep Android Integration

Google has unveiled its new lineup of premium laptops called Googlebooks, designed to pair nicely with Android phones and access AI-powered services. The first five models are available for purchase, with more expected to arrive later. However, it remains to be seen whether these devices will be worth considering as the next laptop.

Unlike Chromebooks, which run on ChromeOS, Googlebooks use an Android-based OS called Googlebook OS, centered around Gemini AI. This operating system allows users to access their phone's files and apps directly from their laptop, making it easy to continue working on projects across devices.

The first batch of Googlebooks features metal builds, 512 GB storage, 16 GB RAM, and high-resolution touchscreens. They come with a minimum of 10 hours of battery life and promise feature updates for 10 years. Prices start at $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14, reaching up to $1,299 for similar models from Asus and HP.

While these laptops offer impressive specs and features, they may not be suitable for everyone. For those who prefer Windows or MacOS devices, there are more affordable options available, such as the $699 MacBook Neo and Dell XPS 13. Googlebooks are geared towards hardcore Android fans who want a connected ecosystem experience.
