Google Unveils Vision for Renovated Thompson Center

Google's plans for its future regional headquarters in Chicago are taking shape. The tech giant is renovating the James R. Thompson Center, a 1.2 million-square-foot office building designed by Helmut Jahn and completed in 1985.

The renovation aims to preserve the building's iconic features, including its soaring atrium and black-and-white mosaic on the marble-clad ground floor.

According to Google's vice president and Chicago site lead, Mike Miller, the renovated space will be designed for daily use as well as special events. The atrium and plaza will feature a curated mix of food options, retail spaces, and seasonal event areas.

The renovation is expected to bring new energy to the central business district, potentially filling empty storefronts with new businesses.
