Google Upgrades Ask Maps with Gemini-Powered Conversational Features

Google has upgraded its Ask Maps feature with new capabilities powered by Gemini. The changes allow users to accomplish more tasks conversationally, such as ordering food or finding a hotel. For example, you can now ask Ask Maps to find a well-lit tennis court near your location and it will provide you with recommendations.

The feature is expanding to more countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, and Mexico, among 150 additional territories starting today. Agentic AI has been one of Google's top priorities, as seen in some new features like Gemini Intelligence coming to the next Pixel devices running Android 17 and the upcoming release of its laptop lineup.

Ask Maps can now access users' information if allowed, so they don't have to go back to their Gmail app. It also remembers previous conversations, making it easier for users to recall places they've researched before. Users can even contribute to Map conversations by submitting changes to a store's hours or an establishment's status.
