Google Wallet adds Oklahoma state IDs to Android digital wallet
Google Wallet for Android is expanding its digital state ID offerings with the addition of Oklahoma, marking the 13th state to join the service. Users can now add their Oklahoma state ID to Google Wallet by following a straightforward process that involves photographing their physical card and recording a short video for verification. This feature is already available in states like Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and Puerto Rico.
The digital ID card design incorporates Oklahoma's state animal, the American Bison, and its state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher. The setup process requires users to take photos of the front and back of their physical card, along with a video for verification, which is reviewed by the state agency. Once approved, users receive a notification and an email confirmation.
To use the digital ID, users can either tap the reader or scan a QR code. The service allows users to control what information is shared and ensures security through Bluetooth connectivity and biometric verification. However, it's important to note that the digital ID does not replace the need to carry a physical card, as required by law.
Users can manage their digital IDs through the Google Wallet app, including the option to delete the ID from their device or Google Account. The feature is available on devices running Android 8 or later, with Bluetooth and Nearby devices enabled.
