Google Wallet Introduces Secure Tap-to-Pay Balance for Kids
Google Wallet has introduced a new feature that allows parents to set up a secure balance for their children to use with their NFC-enabled Android phone or WearOS device. This balance can be used anywhere Google Pay is accepted, eliminating the need for a traditional bank account.
The parent can add money to the child's balance using the Google Wallet app, and the funds will be instantly available for use. Unlike other payment apps, there are no additional fees or transfers required before the funds can be used.
Parents can also set boundaries by creating daily spending limits and view all of their child's spending transactions through Family Link. They can even receive push notifications when a new transaction is made, including the amount spent and the location where it took place.
The balance can be locked or unlocked at any given moment, which can be helpful if a device is misplaced or stolen, or if a parent wants to establish a 'spending timeout'.
