Google Wearables Detect Insulin Resistance with AI-Powered Metabolic Monitoring
Google's latest wearable technology has taken a significant leap forward in monitoring metabolic health. The new feature, part of Google's Health Guardian collection, can detect changes in insulin resistance, a precursor to type 2 diabetes.
The Pixel Watch and Fitbit devices will be the first to offer this feature, with other devices expected to follow soon. Unlike traditional glucose monitors, this technology doesn't measure blood sugar levels directly. Instead, it uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze patterns in physiological signals from multiple sensors, including an accelerometer, barometer, heart-rate sensor, and temperature sensor.
Google trained its AI model on data from over 100,000 people to identify subtle changes associated with insulin resistance. The system looks for patterns that may indicate the body's cells are becoming less responsive to insulin, a sign of potential prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
