Google Web Traffic Holds Firm Despite AI Surge
Google's dominance in web traffic remains unchallenged, despite the surge in popularity of competing AI chatbot platforms. According to Bank of America, Google's global daily web visits rose 3% in August, reaching a total of 2.8 billion. This growth is significant, as it contrasts with the decline in traffic experienced by ChatGPT, which dropped 5% year over year.
The rapid expansion of newer AI services has not yet disrupted Google's market share. In fact, its daily active users reached 2.3 billion, up 12% from last year. This is a stark contrast to the growth rates experienced by other AI platforms, such as Gemini and Claude, which saw their traffic surge 261% and 533%, respectively.
The data highlights the widening gap between Google and newer AI services. Bank of America expects investor attention to shift toward how quickly ChatGPT's advertising business develops.
